Sportsmobile

Just started looking on-line for conversion vans and came across the Sportsmobile website.  Very informative and helpful.  This video about portable toilets caught my attention and had me laughing riotously at the "chin rest" reference.

The Rusty Nail, Stowe, VT

We are in Stowe visiting our dear friends Julie and Pierre. Last night we went to hear Seth Yacavone Blues Trio at The Rusty Nail.  This was a treat on so many levels. The performance was free and the venue was way cool.  Seth was stunning to watch play guitar. It's such a joy to be in the presence of a gifted artist. It always elevates my mood to see Talent of this magnitude. We laughed about how different this Rusty Nail is from the one in Saranac Lake. This Nail is a gorgeous, huge post and beam structure with a balcony area, 3 bars and a very VT vibe. We hatched the plan last night that when we get "on the road" full time that we should check out all the other Rusty Nails out there. Carol and I thought that sounded like a great plan. Then we saw the back of a hoodie that said, "Ride by day, Nail by night" and we took it as a sign...  Carol just told me there's 2 Rusty Nails in Arizona.

Blog Trolling

I've been jumping around from blog to blog reading about other wanna-be and real-life full-timers and collecting blogs to add to the blog roll here.  It's been so interesting I can't drag myself away from the computer.  I am intrigued by the wide range of folks who are out there on the road.  This post caught my eye due to the fun blog title and the gorgeous lake photos.  Another lake to add to the "to visit" list.  Jordan Lake State Park, North Carolina

Another great benefit of blog trolling is how many great how-to get started or before you get started posts you can find out there.  This one on Tiny House Blog lists things I hadn't thought about like the need for a permanent address and Mi-fi.

Add to the Must-visit List

Goldwater Lake, Prescott AZ
Watching an episode of Lakefront Bargain Hunt and seeing the houseboats on Lake Cumberland, Kentucky is making me think 1) I would love to live on a house boat (not a new thought)
and 2) we need to put Lake Cumberland, KY on our "to visit" list.  I saw a picture of Goldwater Lake, Prescott, AZ yesterday on an RVer's blog and it was beautiful.  I had made a mental note that Prescott needed to go on the "to visit list" while simultaneously thinking, "like I would ever remember that..." So as I see places I think we should visit I'll be posting them here to help me keep track.

In the beginning

We are three years away from beginning our dream of camping full-time.  To date we have never RVed.  We are tent campers.  However, we aspire to live full-time RVing.  That may sound crazy, but I know others have done it, and I know it's what we both really want so, that's the plan.  I've been reading blogs of other full-timers and decided I wanted a way to collect the great ideas and tidbits of advice I'm gleaning from their blogs, so I am starting this blog in part to have one site to link to all the resources I find out there.  I also think that documenting our process and progress as we approach hitting the road full time will be very worthwhile.  And, I love blogging :-)

So far we've been all over the map on what size and style of RV we want.  We've gone from drooling over T@b campers, that no longer exist, to finding the also extinct T@da and thinking it was perfect, to being mesmerized by big travel trailers with bars and Lazy Boy recliners, to back to simple and minimal.  Our goal in becoming full-timers is to spend as much time as possible outdoors.  We are so afraid that if we have all the comforts of home, that we will fall into spending more time inside than out - defeating the purpose of this adventure.  So far, we have not found the ideal camper for us, so we continue the search.
